Learn more about me and how I differentiate myself from other realtors.
Who is John Theodore Cooper?
Born and raised in beautiful Victoria British Columbia, I am proud to call this place my home. I come from humble beginnings and I know what it means to work hard for my clients. Some of my highest values include honesty, integrity, loyalty and hard work. It’s a commitment to these values that have driven my every success in life.
My background includes, a bachelors and Master’s degree in Economics, multiple successful business endeavours in different industries, and hands on experience building houses in a handful of different trades. I leverage this range of experience on a daily basis to safeguard my clients’ interests and ensure they receive top quality advice when making one of the most important decisions of their lives.
As far as my personal lives is concerned, I share my life with my amazing wife Christine, and we plan to plant firm roots in this community as our family grows. I love the outdoors and am an avid strategy tabletop game enthusiasts. I have recently started to collect used and rare bound classic books to expand my collection and have taken up surfing, but surfing has not taken up on me yet, but I am not giving up.
Beyond a sense of duty to serve my clients, I have a passion to help other people including those closest to me, my friends and family. I’m also very competitive and I hate losing almost more than I love to win. It’s these driving motivations that will make me an asset to have in your corner.
Why did I become a realtor?
My Father in-law has been a successful Realtor in Ontario for the last 30 years and for three straight years prior to getting licensed, he continuously hounded me to get into real estate, stating all my previous experience and sales skills. The idea sounded appealing in theory, but it never felt like the right time. Then, I bought my first home, and the gravity and the multi-faceted nature of the industry took hold of me.
Prior to buying a home, I assumed, perhaps like many others, that realtors were little more than glorified sales people. However, once I had gone through the process of buying a home, I realized just how complicated it can be and just how important it is to have an honest, experienced, hard working agent representing you. More than simply money, it was the challenge and the opportunity to play such an important role in other people’s lives that led me to take the plunge into real estate.
What makes me a good realtor?
My personal values and experience are core to what makes me effective as a realtor. My commitment to honesty, integrity, loyalty and hard work have been important pillars for me because they drive a high standard of excellent service for my clients. This in turn has helped me to build strong relationships, develop a good reputation and win good favour and positive referrals from others. More importantly, these values have helped me to grow both personally and professionally.
Beyond having a strong sense of personal values, my unique set of skills and experience equip me to provide valuable advice and guidance to each client I work with. My former experience in the trades industry gives me a solid understanding of how homes are built and what to avoid. My years of experience studying and working as a researcher in the field of economics has developed a keen understanding of how to quantify and evaluate each purchase in the context of current market conditions, useful skills whether you’re a first time home buyer or a savvy investor. And my years of business experience have honed my understanding of human behaviour and my ability to negotiate on your behalf.
How am I different from other realtors?
It’s commonly said that most realtors follow the three P’s when listing your home. They put it on the Multiple Listing Service (MLS); they put out a sign; and they pray. I think this is largely to do with the fact that many people who enter the real estate industry have little or no transferable skills, and possibly little or no reason to be in the industry in the first place. Unlike many realtors, I leave nothing to chance. Beyond integrity and a good work ethic, It’s my unique set of skills and expertise that help me to stand out. These include both traditional and modern techniques which I employ to help my clients stay ahead of the pack.
Like many experienced agents, I have a firm grasp on assessing structural soundness, reviewing financial details, and deploying shrewd negotiating techniques to ensure my clients get the best value in each transaction. However, unlike many experienced agents, I’m also knowledgeable and experienced in deploying and leveraging modern sales and marketing technology. This allows me to accomplish twice as much for my clients who are looking to buy. It also gives my selling clients almost 7 times as much exposure than simply listing on the MLS. This unique blend of traditional and modern methods allows me to provide a service that is uniquely tailored to your needs.
Get in touch with me and I will share more about my approach, even if you are not ready to buy or sell yet. I look forward to speaking with you!
